据《湖南日报》1月18日消息，日前，中共中央批准：马永生同志任湖南省委委员、常委，王宇同志不再担任湖南省委常委、委员职务。
公开消息显示，马永生出身武警部队，曾任黑龙江省武警总队政治工作部主任，中国海警局东海分局政委等职。
2019年12月，武警部队举行晋升中将、少将警衔仪式，其中，马永生晋升少将警衔。
2023年，马永生以湖南省军区政委身份出现在公开报道中。
