A German student, Joel Mikael Walker, recently gained social media attention after using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to save a woman during a mountain climb in Dengfeng, Henan. When the woman collapsed due to cardiac arrest, Walker applied TCM techniques, tapping her elbow and spraying cool water on her face under guidance from TCM practitioner Song Zhaopu. The woman regained consciousness after 20 taps. Walker, a Henan University of Chinese Medicine graduate, is fluent in the Henan dialect and committed to promoting TCM globally. His actions highlight the potential of TCM in emergency care, earning him the nickname “German Henanese”.
