本周我们来学习与邻里相关的词汇

1. neighbor/ˈneibə/

n. 邻居

e.g. I asked my next-door neighbor to keep an eye on my house while I was on vacation.

e.g. Living next to friendly neighbors makes the neighborhood feel welcoming and warm.

adj. neighboring 邻近的

e.g. Neighboring countries sometimes share similar cultural traditions due to their close proximity.

e.g. We visited a neighboring city for the weekend to explore its historical landmarks.

补充：

proximity n.接近；临近

landmark n.标志性建筑

2. nosy /'nəʊzɪ/

adj.爱管闲事的;喜欢打听的;八卦的

e.g. Sometimes, having a nosy neighbor can be annoying, but it also means they notice if something seems off.

e.g. It’s hard to keep a secret in a small town with so many nosy people around.

3. recluse /rɪ'kluːs/

n. 隐居者；喜欢独处的人

e.g. Despite living in the same building for years, my neighbor is a bit of a recluse and rarely comes outside.

e.g. Our new neighbor is quite a recluse; I’ve only seen him once since he moved in.

adj. reclusive 隐居的

e.g. The reclusive old man lived alone, surrounded by nature and away from the bustling city.

e.g. The artist lived a reclusive life, rarely showing his work or speaking to the media.

4. acquaintance /ə'kwentəns/

n.认识的人

搭配：a casual acquaintance 泛泛之交

a passing/nodding acquaintance 有一面之交的人

e.g. My neighbors and I are just nodding acquaintances; we smile at each other when we cross paths but haven’t really had a proper conversation.

e.g. I have a few casual acquaintances at work whom I chat with in the break room, but we never really meet outside of work.

n. 相识；认识

on first acquaintance：初识

on further/closer acquaintance 进一步认识

e.g. On first acquaintance, he seemed very reserved, but over time, I realized he was just shy.

e.g. On closer acquaintance, I found that my neighbor was actually very helpful and kind-hearted.

补充：kind-hearted 热心的

5. anonymity /ænə'nɪmɪtɪ/

n. 匿名；不知姓名

搭配：urban anonymity: refers to the phenomenon in cities where people often remain strangers to those living around them, even their neighbors.城市中的匿名性

e.g. The urban anonymity of the city can make it feel lonely at times, despite being surrounded by thousands of people.

e.g. The phenomenon of urban anonymity has increased with the rise of online socializing, where people can avoid face-to-face interactions and still maintain their relationships.
