Korean clothing, traditional clothing of the Korean ethnic group in China, is one of China's intangible cultural heritages.
When it comes to Korean ethnic clothing, the most captivating element is undeniably the pristine, virtuous, noble, and sacred symbolism associated with the color white. In the traditional beliefs of the Korean ethnic community, white not only signifies purity but also carries a divine connotation. Thus, they have been historically honored as the "White-clad Ethnic Group".
In the early 20th century, propelled by the advances in the modern economy, machine-woven fabrics, silk, satin, and other textiles found their way into the regions inhabited by the Korean ethnic group. As a result, the palette of colors in Korean ethnic clothing became more diversified.
The distinctive features of traditional Korean ethnic attire include a diagonal front opening, the absence of buttons, and the use of long fabric belts for fastening. Men's and women's garments exhibit notable differences, with men donning pants and women opting for skirts. Men's pants feature broad crotches and legs, with fabric belts tying the cuffs for the convenience of sitting cross-legged. On the other hand, women's short jackets extend to the chest, while long skirts gracefully reach the ankles.
