文革时陕西运城蒲剧团副团长牛小顺，为了表示对毛的忠心，在自己地里将麦子种成“毛主席万岁”字样，锄草、除虫、施肥、浇屎、浇尿，麦子长得好不旺盛。不料，他被人举报往“毛主席万岁”上锄草杀虫浇屎浇尿，这是反革命，游街批斗。牛小顺眼看过不了关，一日回家，一头扎进自家水缸溺亡。
