在挺举第二把中，刘焕华228公斤试举起来，但是有两位裁判给了红灯（成绩无效），中国队这边挑战失败，这一试举成绩无效。
挺举第三把，刘焕华直接从228公斤加到了235公斤，迫使乌兹别克斯坦选手朱拉耶夫（最终的银牌得主）先举并且加到了232公斤，但是朱拉耶夫试举失败，刘焕华拿下金牌。
