张之洞字孝达，号香涛、香岩，又号壹公、无竞居士，晚自号抱冰。直隶南皮（今河北南皮）人。同治二年（1863）探花，庶吉士，历任翰林院编修、教习、侍读、侍讲学士及内阁学士。洋务派代表人物之一，与曾国藩、李鸿章、左宗棠并称晚清“四大名臣”。
