北京时间2月22日，扬子晚报报道：“2月21日深夜，江苏女篮主教练丁铁在率队前往联赛客场征战期间突发疾病，于今日凌晨在陕西不幸离世。”
1995年至2002年期间，作为球员的丁铁曾代表代表江苏男篮出战联赛赛场，是伴随江苏男篮走过低谷时期的重要一员。
退役后，丁铁从球员转型成为教练，进入江苏女篮任教直至如今。期间，曾于2015年获得优秀教练员奖一等奖。
