International Schools Athletic Conference (ISAC) is a long tradition at WAB, where athleticism, camaraderie, and cultural exchange meet, featuring students' energy, passion, and talent from Beijing and beyond.

WAB has talked to Niall Watt, Elementary School PE teacher, ES WABX Athletics Coordinator, and the driving force behind ISAC at WAB. Here are the reasons he shares, explaining what ISAC is and why it's more than a series of games.

Why ISAC? More than Just a Game

Participation in ISAC is not just about the sport; it's a holistic journey of growth, learning, and interaction. Here's why every leap, sprint, and serve matters:

• Physical Health and Fitness: A commitment to sports is a commitment to lifelong health.

• Skill Development: Every sport offers a unique blend of skills, ensuring comprehensive development.

• Inclusive Participation: The Olympic Dream Series which we use for selection, ensures everyone plays, learns, and grows and that our very best represent in the ISAC arena.

• Progressive Involvement: Early exposure to competitive sports instills a love for the game and nurtures talent, students' opportunities grow from year to year starting with Cross Country and Swimming in Grade 2, Cross Country, Swimming, and Track and Field in Grade 3. All of those plus handball, table tennis, badminton, and football in Grades 4 and 5.

• Cultural and Social Interaction: Competing with diverse schools is a rich, cultural learning experience.

• Teamwork and Collaboration: Lessons in unity and collective effort are at the heart of every team sport.

• Building Confidence and Resilience through Healthy Competition: Sports help develop individuals who are ready to face life's challenges. ISAC guides students to embrace every outcome with grace and dignity.

• Year-Round Engagement: ISAC keeps the spirit of sports alive throughout the year.

• Pride and Representation: Representing WAB is an honor that fosters school spirit and community belonging.

• Exposure to Diverse Sporting Events: Showcasing talents in familiar settings gives our students a home-ground advantage and going away from home provides added adventure and new experiences.

A Hub of Action: WAB's Tiger Field and Beyond

WAB is proud to host an array of exhilarating ISAC events, transforming Tiger Field into a buzzing arena of passion and performance. From the sheer adrenaline of the ISAC Track and Field under the floodlights to the strategic plays in Table Tennis, or tournaments that they travel across Beijing to compete in handball, football, swimming, cross country, and badminton, every event promises to be a spectacle of skill and spirit.

Moments to Cherish

Niall also shared one of his favorite moments out of his 11-year involvement in the ISAC Elementary Sport. When the ISAC Track and Field was under the glare of the Tiger Field Floodlights last year, a community united in support, and the roar of cheering parents from WAB and the other visiting schools echoed through the arena. "After a few years in COVID wilderness, this event was so, so welcome for every stakeholder," Niall shared.

He further added that memories of these moments, with athletes shining and parents beaming with pride, are what make ISAC an unforgettable experience.
