据国家林业和草原局，日内瓦当地时间9月6日15时23分，《湿地公约》常委会第62次会议审议通过了中国提交的关于在深圳建立国际红树林中心的区域动议提案，标志着国际红树林中心正式成立。
去年《湿地公约》第十四届缔约方大会上，中国宣布将加强湿地保护的国际合作，在深圳建立国际红树林中心。
