大家最近有没有看到一种说法，就是火锅的英文不是 hotpot，而是 hot pot，中间应该空一格，你要是在国外说要 hotpot，外国人会以为你说的是「土豆洋葱炖肉」之类的大杂锅。

真的是这样吗？剑桥词典的例句可以解答这个问题：

火锅店的桌子上，通常有一个盆或锅，顾客点的菜就放在锅子里的辣汤里面煮。

国外的权威词典里，hotpot 现在也被用作火锅的意思，我们也咨询了雅思口语考官Colin：

我们应该用发展的眼光看待、学习语言，火锅现在在北美和欧洲都很流行和常见，不管是口语还是书面，你用 hotpot，结合语境，外国人也能迅速明白你的意思。

hot pot 火锅

讲解：这个单词有争议的地方在于，很多人会去纠结应该是 hot pot 还是 hotpot, 其实都是可以的，现在火锅国内外都比较流行，分开写或者连成一个单词都可以，不会引起误解。

例句：The company is taking itshotpotglobal.

这家公司正将它的火锅带向全世界。

soup base /beɪs/ 锅底

讲解：base 是根基，基础的意思，所以 soup base 的意思就是锅底。

例句：You can choose the non-spicy soup base.

你可以选不辣的锅底。

double-flavor hot pot

/ˈfleɪvər/ 鸳鸯锅

讲解：选择鸳鸯锅的就意味着 you can have half spicy and the other half non-spicy, flavor, f-l-a-v-o-r，就是味道，香料，调味料的意思，double-flavor hot pot 的意思是 两种口味的火锅，也就是指的鸳鸯锅。

例句：We haddouble-flavor potmost of the time, then we can have half spicy and the other half non-spicy.

我们大部分时间都是点的鸳鸯锅，就既可以吃到辣锅也可以吃到不辣锅。

/brɒːθ/ 辣锅

讲解：Broth means soup with meat, rice, or vegetables, 也就是汤的意思，spicy 的意思是辛辣的，spicy broth 也就是指的辣锅。

例句：I really like this restaurant, thespicy brothis amazing!

我超级喜欢那家餐馆，他们家的辣火锅真的太好吃了！

slightly spicy broth

/ˈslaɪtli/ 微辣锅

讲解：slightly表示轻度的，轻微的意思, slightly spicy broth 也就是指的微辣锅。

例句：What kind of broth shall we order? There are three choices on the menu:slightly spicy broth, moderately spicy broth or extra spicy broth?

我们点哪种锅底呢？菜单上说有微辣锅、中辣锅和特辣锅三种锅底。

/ˈmɒdərətli/ 中辣锅

讲解：moderately 的意思是中度的，moderately spicy broth 就是说的中辣锅。

例句：Moderately spicy brothis my favorite.

我最爱的是中辣锅。

讲解：extra 的意思是特别的，extra spicy 就是特辣的，extra spicy broth 就是指的特辣锅。

讲解：plain 有无掺杂的，简单的，朴素的意思，plain broth 也就是指的清汤锅。

讲解：mushroom 是蘑菇的意思，mushroom soup broth 也就是指的菌汤锅。

讲解：dipping 的原型是 dip, 浸，蘸的意思，sauce, it means a thick cooked liquid that is served with food to give it a particular taste, 就是说的有味道的酱，so dipping sauce 就是蘸酱的意思。

例句：Make a personaldipping sauceand a bowl of seasoning if you like.

制作符合个人口味的蘸酱，也可以调干粉碟。

vinegar /ˈvɪnɪɡər/ 醋

soy sauce 酱油

sesame oil /ˈsesəmi//ɔɪl/

芝麻油，香油

讲解：像醋，酱油，香油是调酱时大多数人会放的调料，醋的英文是 vinegar, 酱油是 soy sauce, 香油就是 sesame oil.

例句1：Sichuan style sauce is made ofsesame oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, and chopped dried chili.

四川蘸碟是由香油、蒜泥、酱油、和干辣椒碎组成的。

例句2：Vinegaris used in preserving food.

醋可用来保存食物。

minced garlic

/mɪns//ˈɡɑːlɪk/ 蒜末

ginger /ˈdʒɪndʒər/ 生姜

spring onion /ˈʌnjən/ 葱

讲解：葱姜蒜也是调酱中最常配备的，蒜的英文是 garlic, 生姜的英文是 ginger, 葱的英文是 spring onion, minced 的意思是切成丁的，切成沫的，所以想要蒜末就是 minced garlic.

例句：You can also add choppedspring onions, minced garlic and ginger to the sauce of your choice.

你还可以往你选的小料里放葱花和香菜。

cilantro /səˈlæntrəʊ/ 香菜

讲解：喜欢香菜的人会很喜欢，那不喜欢香菜的人就会完全不能接受，香菜的英文是 cilantro.

例句：It's been estimated that 4-14% of the population can't stand the taste ofcilantro, but here's where it gets interesting.

据估算，有4%到14%的人群无法接受香菜的味道。但这才是有意思的地方。

15.

pickled fermented tofu

/ˈpɪkəld//fəˈment//ˈtəʊfuː/ 腐乳

讲解：pickled 是盐渍的，腌制的意思，fermented 指的是发酵的，tofu 就是豆腐，因为腐乳就是豆腐发酵制成的，所以它的英文也就是 pickled fermented tofu.

例句：Traditional Beijing sauce is sesame paste withpickled fermented tofuand Chinese chive paste.

传统北京小料是麻酱加上腐乳和韭菜花酱。
