梅州城郊的高观音，原名黄沙嶂，海拔800多米，山顶可以俯瞰整个梅州城。离山峰不远处，原有一座供奉观音菩萨的小庙，“高观音”之名，或许便是由此而来。寺庙后经多次改建，已经规模不小。2013年在峰顶建造了高达多米的四面观音菩萨像，成为梅州市最大的观音石雕佛像。
