立体视（3D）就是双眼同时观察景物，分辨物体远近形态的能力, 两眼发挥协同作用才会产生立体视觉。立体视功能不仅使我们拥有深度知觉，还有很多其它作用。我引用了以下两位学者的研究，来阐述双眼视和立体视，在视觉系统和生活中的重要性。

WHY ARE TWO EYES BETTER THAN ONE?
为什么使用双眼比使用单眼好？
1. Having two provides a spare eye in case one is injured. According to a study by Tommila and Tarkanen, people with amblyopia are 3 times more likely to lose vision in their dominant eye than visually-normal individuals.
1.我们有两只眼睛，假如一只眼睛受伤，另外一只还可以使用。Tommila和Tarkanen的研究表明，弱视患者失明的概率是正常人的三倍。
2.Two eyes give a wider field of view. The monocular horizontal field of view is approximately 160 degrees, while the binocular horizontal field of view is 200 degrees, or approximately 30 percent greater.
2.双眼视野更加宽广。单眼的水平视野范围大约是160°。双眼视野大约200°，比单眼视野增加了30%。
3. There is a blind area (physiological blind spot) in each visual field that corresponds to where the optic nerve leaves the back of the eye. However, when both eyes are open, each eye fills in for the blind spot of the other eye, thus eliminating any blind areas in our field of view.
3.每只眼睛的视野范围都有一个盲区（生理盲区），盲区和眼球后面的视神经相对应。双眼同时使用，视野盲区得到互补，从而消除视野盲区。
4. Without the two eyes working together there can be no stereopsis. Impairment with binocular vision can affect accurate grasping of objects, eye movements during reading and even cognitive function.
4.如果双眼不同时“工作”，就不会产生立体视觉。双眼视功能受损，会影响抓取物品的准确度，也影响看书时的眼球运动功能，甚至造成认知功能障碍。
