可记歌诀：一二子中寻，三画问丑寅，四在卯辰巳，五午六未申，七酉八九戌，其余亥部存。或是“一二在子三丑寅，四卯辰巳五午寻，六在未申七在酉，八九在戌余亥存。”

笔画检字 用于难字查检，可依笔画检字表。如查“民”字，如果不知道其部首，可以查笔画检字表。“民”为5画，可以在5画中查到。“民”下注为“氏”部，再到“部首索引”中查到“氏”部。“氏”在“辰集”33页，“辰集下”中“氏”部1画里即可查到“民”字。
